Description

A delicious and easy-to-prepare pasta dish featuring hearty smoked sausage and creamy cheddar, perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces bowtie pasta
  • 14 ounces Petit Jean Meats smoked sausage
  • 1 onion (sliced thin)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 3 cups milk
  • 10 ounces cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 2 packages broccoli florets (9.5 ounce each, frozen or fresh)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the bowtie pasta and cook to al dente according to package directions, about 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. If using frozen broccoli, add the florets to the pasta water during the last 3-4 minutes of cooking.
  3. Slice the Petit Jean Meats smoked sausage into 1/4 inch rounds. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the sausage until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened and fragrant.
  5. Once ready, reduce the heat to medium-low and melt butter. Whisk in the flour to create a roux, cooking for about 2 minutes.
  6. Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened.
  7. Season with smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
  8. Lastly, combine the pasta, broccoli, and browned sausage, tossing together until well-coated in the cheesy sauce.

Notes

For a creamier sauce, consider adding more milk or cheese as needed. You can also experiment with different vegetables for added flavor.
