Description
A delicious and easy-to-prepare pasta dish featuring hearty smoked sausage and creamy cheddar, perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 16 ounces bowtie pasta
- 14 ounces Petit Jean Meats smoked sausage
- 1 onion (sliced thin)
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- 3 cups milk
- 10 ounces cheddar cheese (shredded)
- 2 packages broccoli florets (9.5 ounce each, frozen or fresh)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the bowtie pasta and cook to al dente according to package directions, about 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- If using frozen broccoli, add the florets to the pasta water during the last 3-4 minutes of cooking.
- Slice the Petit Jean Meats smoked sausage into 1/4 inch rounds. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the sausage until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Add the onion and garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened and fragrant.
- Once ready, reduce the heat to medium-low and melt butter. Whisk in the flour to create a roux, cooking for about 2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened.
- Season with smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
- Lastly, combine the pasta, broccoli, and browned sausage, tossing together until well-coated in the cheesy sauce.
Notes
For a creamier sauce, consider adding more milk or cheese as needed. You can also experiment with different vegetables for added flavor.
