- 2 lbs 80/20 ground beef
- 12 pack Hawaiian rolls
- 11 slices Colby Jack cheese (or American cheese)
- 1 large sweet onion (diced)
- 24 dill pickles
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cracked pepper
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1.5 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 2 teaspoons pickle juice
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to broil.
- Slice the pack of Hawaiian rolls horizontally and arrange them cut side up on a lined baking sheet.
- Melt 4 tablespoons of butter and use a basting brush to coat the insides of the rolls with butter.
- Broil them for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
- Reduce the oven setting to 350°F.
- Combine the ground beef with salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
- Press the mixture evenly into a greased 9×13 casserole dish and bake for 20 minutes.
- Sauté the diced onion in a pan with 1 tablespoon of butter until browned, about 15 minutes.
- Drain the excess fat from the cooked beef.
- Layer the bottom buns with dill pickles, beef, a double layer of cheese, and sautéed onions.
- Cap with the top buns and brush with the remaining melted butter.
- Return to the oven for another 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
For added flavor, consider seasoning the ground beef with garlic powder or Worcestershire sauce. Feel free to mix different cheese types.
