Description

A delicious homemade green bean casserole that elevates flavors with fresh ingredients and creamy sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh or frozen green beans
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 medium onion (chopped)
  • 10 oz fresh sliced mushrooms (cleaned)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup French’s Crispy Fried Onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (176°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the green beans for about 10 minutes.
  3. Drain the beans and set them aside.
  4. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Add the chopped onions and sliced mushrooms, season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and sauté for about five minutes.
  6. Sift in the flour one tablespoon at a time, stirring constantly.
  7. Alternate adding the half-and-half and milk, mixing until combined into a creamy sauce.
  8. Remove from heat and gently fold in the drained green beans.
  9. Transfer the mixture to a greased 7"x3"x11" baking dish.
  10. Bake for about 30 minutes, and in the last five minutes, sprinkle with French fried onions and return to the oven.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding shredded cheese or experimenting with different toppings.
